For achieving the good ecological status in surface waters or good ecological potential in artificial and heavily modified waters, there is a wide set of management measures available. These measures have to be compiled as a common Programme of Measures. This programme can contain so called compulsory basic measures, which include all the requirements of the WFD as well those of other relevant directives. If the environmental objectives are not met by these basic measures, they have to be complemented by different supplementary measures, such as legislative, administrative and economic instruments or practical restoration projects.
