Welcome to the Watersketch Toolbox!

The Watersketch Toolbox offers general information and practical tools and methods for sustainable river basin planning and management for environmental specialists, spatial planners, and decision-makers. The Watersketch Toolbox supports the goals and best practices set up by the EU Water Framework Directive (2000/60/EC) and current European spatial planning recommendations and strategies, such as the European Spatial Development Perspective (ESDP) and the EU recommendation for Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM).

The Watersketch Toolbox informs the user about basic principles in river basin management, and describes how the quality of watercourses can be affected by different human actions. Also, information for setting up the environmental objectives, as well as of measures needed for achieving them, is offered. Finally, the open and transparent planning process is promoted by giving hints and ideas of different participatory planning methods.

Several practical tools developed for assisting planners and authorities in different phases of the planning process are presented in the Watersketch Toolbox. In addition to user instructions, a wide set of real-life tool applications can be found.

The Watersketch Toolbox is an outcome of the project "Watersketch - Principles, tools and systems to extend and harmonise spatial planning on water courses in the Baltic Sea Region" part-financed by the Baltic Sea Interreg IIIB Programme of the European Union.
